Madurai: Six men have been arrested by the Madurai police after one of them opened fire at a toll plaza in the outskirts of the city.

Reports suggest that around 2pm, a multi-utility vehicle with six passengers entered the Kappalur toll plaza.

The passengers and the toll booth staff got into an argument after they refused to  pay the toll amount, following which one of the gang members opened fire.

When the toll both staff tried to get a hold of him, he ran away. Minutes later, Sasikumar, the man who opened fire was caught when he tried to hide in a house nearby. The others, meanwhile, drove away in the car and escaped.

Immediately after the incident, the police alerted all the toll booths and checkposts on the highway. Soon after nabbing them, the police seized four weapons, 15 live rounds and the vehicle from the gang and are questioning the men.
