Kerala's Chinju Aswathi, first intersex person to contest Lok Sabha election

Ernakulam: A 25-year-old intersex person is all set to contest from Ernakulam in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Chinju Aswathi hails from Angamaly. Chinju is the first intersex person to contest the Lok Sabha poll.

Chinju is a BSc electronics graduate from IHRD College, Thodupuzha. The main reason for Chinju to contest the election is to bring a positive change in the society for the people from his community. Chinju also aims to reform the societal acceptance of the LGBTQ individuals and to implement the rights of his community.

Congress MLA Hibi Eden from UDF, CPI(M) district secretary P Rajeev of the LDF and Union minister Alphonse Kannanthanam from the NDA are the other candidates contesting from Ernakulam.
