Theni voters boycott election, demand proper roads; poll materials carried on horseback

Theni: The voters in the hilly regions of Theni's Bodi in Tamil Nadu on Thursday refused to cast their votes as they felt that promises were not kept. The voters decided to boycott polling until authorities promised to lay roads on the hilly terrain. Until 1 pm, not a single vote was cast. The election officers had set up the polling booth after carrying materials on horseback. A pregnant woman had to be rushed to the hospital for labour but the lack of roads only added to the pain.
