107-year-old Salumarada Thimmakka blesses President Kovind after receiving Padma Shri

New Delhi: 107-year-old Salumarada Thimmakka, who is known as 'mother of trees', was awarded Padma Shri by President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. On the occasion, after receiving the award, Thimmakka was seen blessing the President amidst thunderous applause. Not having children, Thimmakka started planting trees. She is known for planting and tending to 385 banyan trees between Hulikal and Kudur in Karnataka. She is also known for planting nearly 8,000 other trees.
