Two men arrested for illegal sale of liquor in Rameshwaram; 600 bottles seized

Rameshwaram: The City Town Station unit police officials on Monday (May 6) seized more than 600 liquor bottles that were sold illegally in Rameshwaram.

A team led by DSP Mahesh conducted the raid. Speaking to reporters, Mahesh said, "It was following a series of complaints by people of Rameshwaram where the sale of liquor is banned."

According to reports, the sale of liquor is banned in Rameshwaram following a direction given by the Madurai bench of the Madras high court as it houses the memorial of late President APJ Abdul Kalam and is also a leading pilgrim centre visited by people from various religious backgrounds.

On Tuesday (May 7), a team led by the Rameshwaram DSP conducted raids at many places and seized more than 634 liquor bottles and arrested the duo.
