Rameshwaram fisherman hacked to death in broad daylight; tourists stranded as kin block highway

Rameshwaram: Ramachandran, a fisherman, was hacked to death in broad daylight on Saturday (May 11). He was allegedly murdered due to vengeance by two others.

According to sources, Ramachandran was reportedly murdered at 2 pm on Saturday due to personal vendetta. He suffered severe head injuries and succumbed to his injuries.

Ramachandran's body was taken to Rameshwaram Government Hospital for autopsy. The relatives of the deceased staged a protest in Rameshwaram demanding quick action against the accused Karthik and Muniswara.

As the body was handed over to the family members on Sunday (May 12), they refused to take the body and staged a protest on Madurai-Dhanushkodi National Highway.

Meanwhile, several tourists were left stranded on the highway. The family has now demanded compensation from the Tamil Nadu government and wants charges under the Goonda Act to be slapped against the accused.
