Kottayam patient dies after being denied admission to Kerala govt hospital; health minister orders probe

Kottayam: A patient who was brought to Kerala's Kottayam Medical College Hospital in critical condition died after failing to receive treatment on time. He was denied admission to the hospital. The deceased was identified as Jacob Thomas.

According to sources, the doctors said they did not admit the patient as the hospital did not have a ventilator facility. The relatives said they took Thomas to two other private hospitals in Kottayam but also refused to admit him.

Though the patient's daughter, Reni, took him from there in the same ambulance to two private hospitals, there also ventilator facility was not available. Health minister KK Shailaja has ordered a probe into the incident.
