Thiruvananthapuram: The motor vehicles department, as part of operation night riders, has checked over 100 buses in Kerala and among them, offences were found in 28 buses. Among the 28 buses, six belong to Kallada Travels. Operation night riders was launched by the motor vehicles department to crack down on private luxury bus companies that violate rules.
Operation night riders was an initiative undertaken following the attack on three passengers by Kallada Travels staff. On April 21, two passengers travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Bengaluru were thrashed by the staffers of the travels company. The staffers allegedly even threw them out of the bus. The department has collected around Rs 40,000 as fine against the violations.
Meanwhile, the motor vehicles department’s operation night riders will also keep a tab on 500 tourist omnibuses operating from cities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The operation night riders squad will also issue a notice to all booking officers, who have no LAPT licence.
