Karnataka: Residents get two frogs married in Udupi to appease rain God

Udupi: A wedding ceremony of two frogs were organised by villagers in Udupi, Karnataka. This ritual called Mandooka Parinaya is done to please the rain God. Udupi district Citizens Committee Trust and Pancharatna Seva Trust organised the wedding of a male frog from Kalsanka and female frog from Kolalagiri in front of Kidiyoor Hotel in Udupi. The male frog was named Varuna and the female frog was named Varsha. Some believe that getting two frogs married will appease the rain god and bring rain in the region. The water sources in Udupi have dried up and the district is facing acute drought. Reports state that it took the organiser Nithyananda seven days to search for these two frogs and then they were sent to the lab for tests. Later, they named the frogs after confirming their sex at Prasiddha Hospital.
