Elephant mistakes instruction; kills mahout

Kottayam: A mahout was crushed to death by his elephant on Sunday. The victim is identified as Arun Panicker. The 40-year-old man was killed by his elephant while he was giving a bath to the elephant. As per sources, the elephant laid down on the mahout pinning him to the ground. 

Police reports suggest that the mahout ordered the elephant to lie down for a shower, but the elephant mistook his instruction and laid down on the side where Panicker was standing. As a result, Panicker got sandwiched between the elephant and the ground and died on the spot.
