Doctors’ strike: Practitioners in Karnataka form human chain in protest

Karnataka: Indian Medical Association (IMA) called for a strike across India after a doctor was assaulted by patient’s kin in Kolkata.

The Supreme Court has said it will hear a plea on June 18, seeking safety measures for government doctors. The IMA said doctors will not offer non-essential services such as out-patient departments and elective surgeries at hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and diagnostic centres. All emergency services will remain active.

Protesting doctors in Belagavi, Karnataka, formed a human chain l, while Bengaluru doctors raised slogans at Victoria Hospital and KIMS Hospital as a mark of expressing solidarity to their colleague, who was assaulted in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has condemned the attack in Kolkata and requested the doctors in Karnataka to ensure that protests are peaceful.
