Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that all citizens of India irrespective of religion will figure in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) list and that NRC is different from the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Bengaluru: The Citizenship Amendment Bill was tabled in Lok Sabha on July 19, 2016, and was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on August 12, 2016. The Committee submitted its report on January 7, 2019 and the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, the very next day. Union home minister Amit Shah stated that the Citizenship Bill is different from the NRC. The difference between NRC and Citizenship Bill has been simplified by Supriya Krishnamurthy, with inputs from Vicky Nanjappa.
