Jakarta: It was a Super Saturday for India in Indonesia as the nation matched its best-ever gold medal tally at the continent’s multi-sport spectacle.
With India winning a gold in bridge men’s pair, the gold tally is up to 15, the mark which was achieved in the inaugural edition in 1951 in New Delhi.
The 60-year-old Pranab Bardhan and Shibhnath Sarkar, 56, and scored 384 points in the bridge final to claim the yellow metal.
Also on Saturday, boxer Amit Panghal stunned Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov 3-2 in men’s 49kg final to claim gold.
So far, India has 67 medals (15 gold, 23 silver, 29 bronze). This is India's best-ever medals tally in the history of Asian Games, beating the previous mark of 65 in 2010 in Guangzhou.
Later on Saturday, India face Pakistan in the men’s hockey bronze medal match while the women’s squash team play Hong Kong for gold.
