The Supreme Court on October 23 declined to issue a blanket ban on the sale and bursting of fireworks during Diwali and other festivals. A bench of Justice AK Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan of the Supreme Court said that there is a no ban on the sale of firecrackers, but with certain conditions. As a protest to this verdict advocates burst crackers outside Madras high court against the Supreme Court orders. The apex court had said that the order would be an experiment to observe the effects of the ban on pollution levels in the region.
