Hosadurga: BJP MLA Goolihatti Shekhar from Hosadurga constituency attempted suicide in front of the police station by setting himself on fire. He poured petrol over his head and was about to light the fire, when BJP members stopped him from doing so. He injured his eye in the process as they came in contact with petrol. He was admitted to taluk hospital and a multitude of BJP members gathered in front of the hospital. Goolihatti attempted self-immolation to demand that sand be made available to the public at a reasonable price. He alleged that the police were filing cases against people who possessed the permit for sand trade. He also added that the people who were trying to build houses were the most affected due to the high price they need to pay for sand. He protested the alleged misdeeds of the police and claimed that the public was unable to procure sand because of this.
