Ramanathapuram: A factional dispute in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) came to the forefront at Mudukulathur on December 29, when supporters of former minister Suba Thangavelan and district secretary KB Muthuramalingam attacked each other using plastic chairs at the booth committee meeting organised by former minister Periyasami.

As Periyasami came to the dais and began hearing the views of party office-bearers in the district, supporters of Thangavelan took an office-bearer’s words personally. The office bearer said that some people came to the meeting just to create problems. As they asked him to get down from the dais, supporters of Muthuramalingam warned them to behave. After a wordy duel, supporters of the two groups attacked one another by throwing chairs at each other.
