Thiruvananthapuram: On November 3, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that his government did not agree with the police’s decision on arresting two CPI(M) members under UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act). The Kerala Police arrested Allan Shuhaib and Thaha Fasal on Friday (November 1).
According to police, during patrolling, officials found three-person and suspected something foul. Among the three, one fled upon seeing policemen, leaving behind a bag that contained Maoist literature. Thaha and Allan were taken into custody, and their houses were raided.
The Opposition, UDF, staged a walkout protesting the denial of permission for an adjournment motion on the issue. Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala equated CM Pinarayi Vijayan, who also holds the Home Portfolio, to Adolf Hitler of Nazi Germany.
Chennithala said Kerala has become the first state to invoke the amended UAPA law with draconian provisions.
