Everything you need to know about PM Modi and Bill Gates' discussion on India's digital revolution

Recently, PM Modi and Bill Gates had a meeting to discuss India's future in technology, the implementation of AI and safety concerns, and women's empowerment. Gates praised Indians for their quick adaption of technology and also took a selfie using PM's Namo application. 

On March 28, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Microsoft Co-founder, Bill Gates had a discussion at the PM's residence in New Delhi. It was centred around topics like India's future in technology, empowering women, the use of AI, and its misuse and safety concerns.  

It was more like an unstructured conversation, where two individuals were having a relaxed chat. Bill Gates talked about India's adaptability to new technology and fast learning. Prime Minister also talked about the importance of technology and how it should be available to all citizens. Bill Gates also took a selfie using the PM's Namo application. 

Discussion about India's digital revolution 

Bill Gates and the PM talked about the digital revolution in India, where every citizen should have access to technology to forbid monopoly. Gates lauded India for its "digital government' and said, "India is not only adapting technology but it is actually leading the way."

PM Modi also talked about the 2022 G20 Summit in Indonesia, where different nations voiced curiosity over the digital revolution of India. He said, " During the G20 Summit in Indonesia, representatives from around the world expressed their curiosity about the digital revolution in the country. I explained to them that we have democratised technology to prevent monopoly. It is by the people and for the people.."

Integration of AI 

The duo also discussed the implementation of AI and its scope in India. PM Modi expressed his concern over the misuse of AI, especially deep fakes, which can lead to dangerous situations. He also talked about the importance of watermarking AI-generated content.

Gates admitted the dangers of AI and its misuse and also highlighted the positive changes it can bring. Speaking about it, he said, "These are early days in AI... It seems like AI is a huge opportunity but there are a few challenges that come with it."

Namo Drone Didi Scheme 

PM Modi talked about the Namo Drone Didi scheme that provides more opportunities for women to engage with technology. He highlighted that women in India are more open and eager to learn about new technology. He said, "Women are more open to adopting new technology in India...I have started 'Namo Drone Didi' scheme... They are now pilots and can fly drones. The mindset has changed."
