West Bengal: 4 killed, 27 injured in stampede at Kachua Loknath Temple during Janmashtami celebration

The devotees who reached to the temple for darshan on Janmashtami celebration were standing under a shop and due to heavy rains, as the shop collapsed it lead to a stampede

Kolkata: Four people were killed and 27 injured in a stampede at Kachua Loknath Temple in Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Janmashtami celebration. According to sources, the devotees were standing under a shop which collapsed due to heavy rains, leading to a stampede. As there was a water body on the other side and a boundary wall, the people could not escape easily.

The injured have been shifted to National Medical College in Kolkata. According to reports, as many as five persons are in a critical condition. Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has visited National Medical College and met the injured. She also announced Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
