Tamil Nadu: Old age home ill-treats inmates in Madurai; investigation underway
An old age home in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai has not only been accused of ill-treating its inmates but also starving them. The authorities in Madurai have taken stock of the situation and an investigation is currently underway
Madurai: An old age home in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai has hit the headlines for allegedly beating up its inmates and even starving them. The tahsildar and other Madurai authorities are looking into the matter.
The matter came to light when neighbours found it suspicious that the gates of the old age home were perpetually locked during the day. The neighbours complained to Madurai Police that they suspect the inmates to be beaten every night.
When police officials visited the location, they found that the inmates — who had separated from their families four years ago, were starved in the past seven months.
The tahsildar has ordered action against the owner Stephan and his manager Sheela.
