Tamil Nadu: Missing environmental activist Mugilan arrested in Tirupati after six months

Environmental activist Mugilan had disappeared after conducting a press conference in an attempt to “expose the role of police in creating violence during anti-Sterlite protests in Tamil Nadu’.

Chennai: Environmental activist Mugilan, who went missing six months ago after boarding a train to Madurai from Egmore station was caught by Tirupati Railway Police and handed over to a special team of the Crime Branch, CID, of the Tamil Nadu Police. Mugilan went missing after holding a press conference on February 15. Speaking to media, he attempted to “expose the police's role in creating violence during the anti-Sterlite protest”.

He is currently undergoing medical treatment at Vellore Medical Hospital in Adukkamparai for a dog bite he suffered while he was absconding.

A video of Mugilan raising slogans in police custody has gone viral on social media.
