Nagarjuna Sagar Project: All 26 crest gates lifted for first time in 10 years; 2 washed away by floods

Hyderabad: 26 crest gates of the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP), the mega joint project of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were lifted due to heavy inflow of water for the first time in a decade. The project received 8.70 lakh cusecs of flood water and around 8.63 lakh cusecs was released downstream.
It is the first time since 2009 that all gates of all the reservoirs across the Krishna river, from Almatti to NSP, were opened.
Meanwhile, two persons, on the right bank canal of the Nagarjuna Sagar Project, died after they were washed away by heavy floods. Another person died after falling into the water while trying to take a selfie.
