Gurdaspur (Punjab): A Danish woman named Natasha Natalie Sommer, addicted to chatting online, met Malkeet Singh on the internet and fell in love. Singh had confessed that he had been addicted to heroin. The two, however helped each other out of their addictions.
Natasha from Denmark’s capital Copenhagen, was impressed with Singh’s honesty in being addicted to heroin. She flew to Punjab and married Singh as per Sikh tradition and got him admitted to a de-addiction centre.
On March 12, she took her husband to Belgrade (Serbia) to get him treated for addiction. The effect of heroin tapered off gradually and Singh came out of the shackles of addiction. Fearing he may suffer a relapse, she brought him back to India in May and got him admitted to the Gurdaspur Red Cross de-addiction centre where project director Romesh Mahajan began treating him.
“Next week, my husband will apply for a Danish visa and after that we will settle down in my country. I plan to open a car garage for him. My parents, relatives and friends are eager to help us,” she said.
