Lockdown curbs likely to be eased further as PM Modi, Amit Shah meet to discuss road ahead

The home minister’s meeting with the PM came a day after Amit Shah reached out to all chief ministers to assess the lockdown situation and seek their views on the future strategy to contain the spread of COVID-19. There is a view that while easing has helped, the night “curfew” between 7 pm and 7 am is a help in terms of maintaining discipline of social distancing.

For lockdown 5.0, the Centre is exploring ways to fulfill the demand of opening hotels, restaurants, beaches, etc. It is expected that the Union government may come up with more relaxations which will kick start economic activities in some states. The economies of states and Union Territories such as Puducherry, Kerala, Goa, etc and some North-eastern states are heavily dependent on tourism and hospitality, which is yet to get relaxation from lockdown restrictions.
