Bengaluru: While several protests and fines were put to stop the usage of plastic bags, an NGO, I Care, took on a different approach and began an initiative to stitch cloth bags and distribute to street vendors at a low price. The customers who purchase the cloth bag from a street vendor can also return the cloth bag in exchange for money.

The cloth bags are stitched in Tara Old Age Home in Rajarajeswari Nagar, where a Vocational Training Centre (VTC) has been instituted to train people in sewing. The NGO aims to regularly churn out cloth bags at the centre.
