Income Tax department seize Rs 15 crore in Tamil Nadu raids
The Income-Tax department on Friday conducted searches in multiple locations across Tamil Nadu and seized Rs 15 crore cash in raids in Chennai, Namakkal and Tirunelveli
Chennai: The Income Tax department on Friday conducted searches at 18 locations in Chennai, Tirunelveli and Namakkal. According to sources, the I-T department has seized Rs 15 crore from these locations. The raids were conducted on the suspicion that illegal money was being transferred to voters for the upcoming election in the state.
The election in the 39 seats of Tamil Nadu and the lone seat of Puducherry would be held on April 18, the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Similarly, on January 29, Income Tax officials conducted raids in 75 locations in Tamil Nadu. Most of the locations raided were real estate firms and textile companies.
