Food inspectors find chemicals in turmeric; 10 factories temporarily closed in Tamil Nadu
Food inspectors seized six tonnes of turmeric after they found that it was mixed with chemicals. 10 factories producing turmeric powder have been temporarily shut in Madurai.
Madurai: Food inspectors found chemicals in turmeric produced in factories at Sikkandar Chavadi, Koodal Nagar in Madurai. The turmeric produced in these factories is supplied to many regions of Chennai.
Officials seized 6 tonnes of turmeric roots and powder. The chemical-laden powder was adulterated to give it a dark yellow shade. At least 10 turmeric factories have been temporarily shut. Samples of the chemical-laden turmeric have been sent to a lab in Bengaluru for testing.
