Following the violence that erupted during the protests over the amended citizenship law, it was decided to recover the damages from the rioters. The Yogi government made it clear that the state was not going to bear the expenses of the damage caused.
The UP government took an important decision in which it empowered itself to recover the cost of property damaged during the protests and riots. The ordinance is known as the UP Recovery of Public and Private Property Ordinance and the same was cleared by the Cabinet headed by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
