Effect of Iran-US tensions on India: Will Chabahar Port project continue?
As tensions between Iran and the US escalate, India is keeping a close watch on the developments. Several experts say that oil apart, for India the Chabahar Port is of great importance. There was talk that the project may be put on hold
With Chabahar Port India can bypass Pakistan in transporting goods to Afghanistan. Further it would also boost India’s access to Iran, a key gateway to the International North-South Transport Corridor that has rail, road as well as sea routes between India, Russia, Iran, Europe and Central Asia. Further there would be a boost in the import of iron ore, rice and sugar to India. Even the import cost of oil would come down considerably.
