The Madras high court on Monday quashed the land acquisition proceedings in the much-talked about Chennai-Salem eight-lane expressway
Chennai: The much-talked about Chennai-Salem expressway against which several farmers protested, is back in the news now after the Madras high court quashed the land acquisition proceedings.
Farmers in Kanchipuram, Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Salem had staged protests stating that their farmlands will be acquired.
The Madras high court’s verdict comes as a relief to them. The Centre, however, defended the project by stating that the expressway would help in preventing the release of around 17 crore kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
