Adoption data spanning the last 4 years indicate that Indian couples want to bring home a baby girl, even if it means waiting for as long as 6 years. According to the Child Adoption Resource Authority, as many as 4,027 children – 2,393 of them girls – were adopted in 2018-19 – the highest number of adoptions registered in the country since 2015.
