Cauvery Water Management Authority released an order stating that Karnataka has to release water to Tamil Nadu only if there is an increase in the inflow of water. But the farmers in Karnataka are concerned about the water that is necessary to sustain the standing crops in the state.

The decision was taken by the Cauvery Water Management Authority in a meeting, which was attended by representatives of the Centre and the riparian states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry

The Cauvery Water Management Authority in New Delhi ordered Karnataka to release 9.19 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu in the month of June. This order was issued by the authority after a Tamil Nadu official requested them to instruct Karnataka to release water in time for the Kuruvai crops in the delta districts of Tamil Nadu.
 

Farmer leader Madegowda said that Karnataka has scarcity of drinking water and there is no question of releasing water to Tamil Nadu.
