Hello and welcome to this episode of The Handshake, my name is Amal Chowdhury and today we will be talking about how India has asserted that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is illegal. The Indian Government’s concerns arise from the fact that the inclusion of the so-called illegal ‘China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’ (CPEC) as a flagship project of ‘OBOR/BRI’, directly impinges on the issue of sovereignty and territorial integrity of India, the Ministry of External Affairs told Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

China and Pakistan failed to rake up the Kashmir issue at the UN. South block officials that MyNation spoke with said that China was left isolated. 

Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong has stated that China wants India and Pakistan to join hands. China stressed that it sincerely look forward to good relations between China and India, China and Pakistan as well as India and Pakistan, he added. India has consistently maintained that talks and terror cannot go hand in hand.

It was in 2009 that India had first moved to list Azhar as a UN-listed terrorist. It was a lone proposer back then. Gradually other countries started appreciating India's position on this issue.

The all-weather friendship between the two countries seems to have veered towards an unequal exchange where China is the lender while Pakistan is just a borrower.

Addressing a media conference here ahead of the Belt and Road Forum (BRF) being held from April 25-27 to showcase China's trillion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi appealed to India to shed its opposition to the USD 60 billion CPEC, saying it no way "undermined" the basic position on the Kashmir dispute.
