Chennai: The ruling AIADMK has filed a complaint against DMK's Tuticorin candidate Kanimozhi, accusing her of distributing cash during campaign.

The complaint filed with the Chief Electoral Officer states that during a poll campaign, Kanimozhi distributed huge amounts of cash. The DMK, however, has refuted all claims.

A video has gone viral wherein Kanimozhi can be seen standing in the presence of other women.

The women performed the traditional 'aarti' where a camphor is lit and is moved before the person in circular motion from head to toe.

At the end of this, Kanimozhi is seen taking out money and distributing it amongst the women.

This is a practice that is believed to ward off evil eye and mark auspiciousness.

AIADMK's election wing deputy secretary and MLA Inbadurai said that Kanimozhi has violated the Model Code of Conduct by distributing lump-sum amounts to women, who performed 'aarti'.

Inbadurai stated that cash distribution is a criminal offence and sought the rejection of Kanimozhi's nomination papers. He also asked the EC to take action against her.

The MLA further stated that the Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo has assured to look into the matter.

DMK spokesperson spoke to MyNation and said that this video is old and was shot long ago.

Kanimozhi is a candidate for Tuticorin and will fight BJP's Tamilisai Soundararajan. Kanimozhi has filed her nomination papers on Monday for the April 18 Lok Sabha elections in the state.

After filing her papers, Kanimozhi said, "Thoothukudi is my choice because I have continuously worked there and I know the situation there."
