Cristiano Ronaldo is remembered by football fans all over the world for giving the game many memorable moments, especially while donning the Real Madrid jersey for nine years.

In addition to his numerous achievements, the Portuguese superstar has now won the UEFA Goal of the Season honour. This prestigious title was awarded to him for his overhead kick goal against his current club Juventus.

Ronaldo had led his then club Real Madrid to a resounding 3-0 victory against Juventus where he scored twice and assisted in the third goal in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

He has succeeded his Juventus teammate Mario Mandzukic who won the award in 2017 and Barcelona's Lionel Messi who won it in 2015 and 2016.

The win for Ronaldo was a result of an online poll which resulted in him getting 197,496 votes from fans, beating Marseille midfielder Dimitri Payet of France, who received 35,558 votes for his shot against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final.

UEFA technical observers, in a statement, said that Ronaldo's goal showed "an extraordinary display of technique and athleticism".

Ronaldo took to Twitter to express his gratitude. He tweeted, "Thanks to everyone who voted for me. Will never forget that moment, especially the reaction of the fans in the stadium. #UEFA Goal of the Season #SpecialMoment (sic)."
