Jakarta: After Saina Nehwal settled for a bronze, PV Sindhu entered the women's singles badminton final, defeating Japan's Akane Yamaguchi at the ongoing Asian Games in Indonesia.

Sindhu beat Yamaguchi 21-17, 15-21, 21-10 on Monday. She is the first Indian woman to enter the singles final at the continent’s multi-sports extravaganza.

Yesterday, Saina and Sindhu helped India claim their first individual badminton medals in 36 years. However, Saina lost her semi-final match to world number one Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei on Monday.

Sindhu will now look to clinch gold to end her streak of winning silvers in major tournaments. She will face Ying in the final on Tuesday.
