Jakarta: Indian women reached the squash final on Friday at the ongoing Asian Games in Indonesia.

The team of Joshna Chinappa, Dipika Pallikal Karthik (pictured), Sunayna Kuruvilla and Tanvi Khanna defeated Malaysia (Nicol David, Wee Wern Low, Subramaniam Sivasangari, Aifa Azman) 2-0 to book a spot in the gold medal match.

The 31-year-old Joshna stunned eight-time world champion Nicol 12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 10-12, 11-9. On Thursday, she was upset with herself after losing to Hong Kong's Annie Au in India's final group match.

"I was very upset yesterday as you must have seen. I did not play the way I was supposed to play. Spoke to my parents and coach and that helped. Today, I just wanted to be myself. Nicol is such a champion. She always plays a fair game and today was no different. Really happy to have come through," Joshna said.

India awaits the winner of Hong Kong and Japan in the second semi-final.

Last week, Joshna and Dipika had bagged a bronze each in women’s singles event. Dipika lost to Malaysia’s Nicol David 0-3 in the semi-final while Joshna too was beaten in her last-four match by Malaysia’s Subramaniam Sivasangari 1-3.

So far, India has won 59 medals (13 gold, 21 silver, 25 bronze) in Indonesia.
