Jakarta/Palembang: Highly-rated Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out of the 18th Asian Games after an unexpected loss to Hong Kong's Wong Wing Ki Vincent in the second round of the Asian Games men's singles on Friday.

The Commonwealth Games 2018 silver medallist had a 5-2 head-to-head record against Wong, but it did not matter in the end as the Hong Kong shuttler proved to be a better player.

Srikanth went down 21-23 19-21 in a hard-fought match. Wong put up a robust defence and produced more accurate strokes to eliminate Srikanth in a 43-minute duel.

Nevertheless, Srikanth, who had won four titles in a watershed year last season, will next play at the Japan Open from September 11 to 16.
