Jammu: A former security personnel was killed in his home by masked terrorists at Pingleena village of Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Wednesday.

According to the initial reports, armed men barged into the residence of Showkat Ahmed Naik, and fired bullets at him. He was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Naik, son of Mohd Yousuf Naik, was declared deserter from the Army on September 17, 2018. He was a former special police officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir Police. He had come to join the Army but did not complete the process.

Army officials said that Naik went territorial unit Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) after getting enrolled in the Army last year. However, he never took oath as a soldier as he deserted as a recruit.

Naik went on three days leave in September and he never returned.

It is yet to verify who attacked him but initial reports suggest the role of militants behind it.

Soon after the incident, a joint team of the Army and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area to nab the assailants.
