Poonch: The Indian Army has warned that if Pakistan continues provocation and misadventure by violating ceasefire and targeting civilian, it will be responded in a befitting manner with ‘dire consequences’.

The statement by the Indian Army came in response to Pakistan violating the ceasefire agreement for the 13th consecutive day. Pakistan army continues heavy mortar shelling on forward posts along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri and Poonch districts.

Before Pakistan violated ceasefire, the Indian Army claimed that the overall situation along the LoC was relatively calm.

Pakistan Army on Wednesday targeted dozens of forward posts and villages with artillery guns. The intense shelling and firing from across the border continued throughout the night in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district. However, it started in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch in the early hours of Wednesday. A senior officer said the Indian Army effectively retaliated and there have been no casualties on the Indian side.

“We would reiterate that as a professional Army we are committed to avoiding civil casualties, especially along the Line of Control. All actions taken by our defence forces are targeted towards counter-terrorism and terrorist infrastructure, away from civilian areas, to avoid civilian casualties,” said Indian Army in a statement.

The army said that they are maintaining strict vigil along the LoC. Any further provocation or misadventure by Pakistan will not be tolerated and will be responded in a befitting manner.
