New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Swatantra Dev Singh on Monday (August 19) resigned from the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh Cabinet.

According to reports, Singh resigned from his post as he was appointed as the Uttar Pradesh BJP president in July.

Singh was the minister of state (independent charge) of transport in the Uttar Pradesh government. He resigned before a possible Cabinet expansion. Some reports indicated that Uttar Pradesh chief minister Adityanath may reshuffle his Cabinet today (August 19).

More than five ministers are likely to take oath as part of the Cabinet reshuffle while a few existing ministers are likely to be removed.

Meanwhile, other ministers in the Cabinet could have their portfolios changed.

Earlier on Friday (August 16), Adityanath and state BJP president Singh met with BJP working president JP Nadda in New Delhi where a detailed discussion was held in connection to the Cabinet reshuffle.

Adityanath also met Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and informed her about the Cabinet reshuffle.

After Singh's resignation, Adityanath's Cabinet now has 42 ministers, which includes 21 Cabinet ministers, eight ministers of state (independent charge) and 13 ministers of state while the ministry now has 17 vacancies.
