Kalaburagi: Veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge is taking on his former party member Umesh Jadhav in Kalaburagi constituency in Lok Sabha election.

Jadhav of the Congress was up in arms against the atrocities and power-centric nature of Kharge and his son Priyank. He recently quit the grand old party and joined the BJP and is now contesting against Kharge.

Jadhav had alleged that Kharge posed as a simple person but wielded a lot of power and did not allow anyone from the party to grow.

After filing his nomination, here are Kharge's declared assets.

Kharge has declared Rs 14.85 crore as his total assets. When compared to 2014, he has amassed Rs 4.3 crore worth property.

Giving details of his property, Kharge has stated that he has Rs 6,31,92,614 worth movable property and Rs 1,36,10,568 worth immovable property. Kharge's wife  Radha Bai owns property worth Rs 7.38 crore.

Kharge has faced 11 elections and also had been a minister in Karnataka as well as at the Centre. But the leader has stated that neither he nor his wife own a car.

This information has been provided in the affidavit submitted by Kharge to the election commission.

Kharge has a record of winning Karnataka Assembly elections for 10 consecutive times — 1972, 1979, 1983, 1985, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2008 and 2009. He has been a member of parliament for Kalaburagi (previously known as Gulbarga) since 2009.

Though he has declared assets worth Rs 14.85 crore, in 2014 itself a case was filed against Kharge and he was under Lokayukta scanner for allegedly owning properties worth Rs 50,000 crore including a complex in Bannerghatta near Bengaluru worth Rs 500 crore, coffee plantation in Chikkamagalur worth Rs 1,000 crore, farmhouses and other properties.

Though he was not proved guilty, it is said that Kharge has made properties in the name of his family members in various places including Pune, Mumbai, Goa, Delhi and other places.
