New Delhi: While the BJP decided to field Bollywood actor Sunny Deol from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat in Punjab this time, represented earlier by acting legend Vinod Khanna, the latter’s wife is “hurt”, but ready to put her “entire might” behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kavita Khanna, wife of late Union minister and four-time BJP MP Vinod Khanna, had earlier said that she felt “betrayed” on having been denied the party ticket and was considering contesting as an independent candidate.

She had said, “I feel betrayed. I also feel that the wishes of people who wanted me as their MP were ignored”.

Earlier this year, at a rally in Gurdaspur, PM Modi had recalled the work of Vinod Khanna in developing the area. “Vinod Khanna made efforts for the progress of this place. He wanted to see modern and prosperous Gurdaspur, we have to realise his dream,” Pm Modi had said.

In the 2017 bypolls following Vinod Khanna’s death, businessman Swaran Salaria was given the seat despite speculations of Kavita Khanna’s nomination. Salaria lost to the Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar by a big margin of two lakh votes.

Kavita had said that people of Gurdaspur wanted her as their representative. “I have faith in God. Life is a journey. I have worked here for 20 years. When Vinod ji was unwell, I used to meet people of the constituency. People wanted me as their MP.”
