Chennai: The officials of the election flying squad have seized 270 voter identity cards from a group of DMK men in Chennai.

The flying squad was conducting vehicle checks near Adambakkam-Medavakkam stretch when a vehicle with a DMK flag pinned to its bonnet was intercepted.

While carrying out a routine check, the flying squad found the voter ID cards and questioned those present inside the car.

The passengers said that the cards belonged to their friends and relatives. They also said that the cards would be distributed to its owners.

The squad, unconvinced with the explanation, seized the cards and handed them over to the Adambakkam police station.

A FIR has been registered and seven persons have been arrested including DMK’s ward secretary, Divakar from the 168th ward.

The others arrested are Yuvaraj, Ragavan, Ambrose, Ravi, Subramani and Kalaimani.

MyNation spoke to DMK spokesperson A Saravanan who said that investigation must be conducted.

“The AIADMK has been indulging in illegal activities and the DMK is being targeted,” stated Saravanan and went on to question why there were no raids on AIADMK members.

Saravanan said that the people behind such incidents must be found and dealt with.

MyNation also tried to get in touch with the AIADMK members but they refused to speak on the matter stating that they were busy campaigning for the upcoming elections.

Flying squads have been deployed across the state to conduct vehicle checks to track the movement of cash, precious metals and other items meant to be distributed to the voters.

So far, Rs 121.5 crore cash has been seized in Tamil Nadu for being transported without proper documents.

The quantity of precious metals seized, including gold and silver, stood at 884 kilograms, which has been estimated at Rs 135.2 crore. The overall value of seizure in Tamil Nadu stood at Rs 263.12 crore.

In the recent past, DMK has been in the news for IT raids that were conducted. Raids were conducted at DMK’s general secretary Durai Murugan’s residence.

Durai Murugan’s aide’s residence was also raided where stacks of cash were recovered.

Another raid at a cement godown, few days earlier, also unearthed stacks of cash.
