Karur: DMK’s Aravakkurichi by-poll candidate V Senthil Balaji who had filed his nomination papers following a road show has gone about building castles in the air.

Balaji has made election promises stating that 25,000 families would be provided with three-cent land under the Thalapathy Housing Scheme, which would be named Udhaya Suriyan Nagar.

He further claimed that he would revive, what he called, “stalled water schemes” for the regions of Paramathi and Aravakkurichi.

“Especially for Aravakkurichi, a new Cauvery Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme will be implemented,” said Balaji.

He made promises to include check dams and barrages at Pugalur, Amaravathi, and construct a government arts and science college in Aravakkurichi.

Balaji said his campaign was far ahead of his rival candidates and he wouldn’t care whether they had started their campaign or not.

“The voters have shown a great deal of support and love for us. Everyone witnessed this. This itself indicates that Stalin will become the chief minister (of Tamil Nadu) after May 23,” said Balaji.

Speaking about Balaji’s claims, Ponnaiyan, the spokesperson of the AIADMK dismissed Balaji’s statement saying he was “not important” to even be commented upon.

Ponnaiyan said that the AIADMK will not react to Balaji’s claims.

On April 24, Balaji filed his nomination papers for the Aravakkurichi by-poll at the Taluk Office.

He was accompanied by former MLA KC Palaniswamy and Congress candidate for the Karur Lok Sabha constituency S Jothimani.
