The BJP may have stunned the Trinamool by poaching a herd of its leaders in recent times, but murmurs have already started within the party on how wise a decision it was. Many even questioned BJP's face of Bengal Mukul Roy’s induction into the party over his Saradha taint.

Considering many of them have a questionable background with serious charges, like human trafficking going on at the central bureau of Investigation (CBI) to cases under the explosives act, people wonder how serious is the BJP in bringing 'clean politics' in West Bengal?

1. Nitish Pramanik

He is now the darling of Bengal's BJP. But not very long ago he was an accused in a serious charge of child trafficking. In fact, the document accessed by MyNation shows that he was also involved in human trafficking, illegal Arms dealing and benami properties cases.

He has a controversial distinction of having as much as 11 criminal cases registered against him. In fact, in the latest instance, on March 16, a case was filed against him for allegedly cheating and criminal breach of trust. Moreover, he is also accused of outraging the modesty of women and also has been accused under the Explosives Act.

But that didn't stop BJP to poach him and Kailash Vijayvargiya to defend him. He is now the BJP's candidate from Cooch Behar. Soon after the announcement of his candidature, the local BJP office was ransacked by BJP cadres protesting against him.

2. Bharati Ghosh

She is portrayed by the BJP as the tough cop who was wronged by Mamata Banerjee. Interestingly, it was the very same BJP that had earlier accused her of working at the behest of the Bengal CM, flouting every norm. She may be the BJP candidate from Kanthi constituency, but not very long ago she called Mamata 'mother of the tribal areas'.

In 2018, after her fall out with Mamata and following a complaint of malfeasance against Ghosh, the Calcutta High Court ordered an investigation.

Raids at multiple places unearthed Rs 2 crore in cash from a flat allegedly owned by a close friend of the former top cop turned BJP neta and her husband MAV Raju.

Rs 2.4 crore was simultaneously recovered from a flat in Kolkata which was believed to be linked to the Ghosh's. Tablets, pen drives, hard disks, 50 land sale deeds involving transactions of around Rs 300 crore were also recovered in other raids in relation to unearthing corruption allegedly perpetrated by Bharati Ghosh.

Moreover, 57 sealed bottles of imported scotch and 1.1 kg of gold were reportedly found in the bank locker of the former Indian Police Service officer, who has suddenly become the face of the anti-establishment fight for BJP. Her case is pending in the Supreme Court.

3.Shankudeb Panda

The former TMC student’s union leader who made his way up in the organisation owing to his muscle man image and ability to allegedly intimidate voters switched side to join the BJP bandwagon this February. The sober looking Bengali youngster could have been a great catch for the BJP for his grassroots level mobilisation skills, had he not also been an accused in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, a scam BJP built its anti-TMC narrative upon since 2017.

Back in 2015, the CBI interrogated the former Trinamool state general secretary in connection with the scam. He was questioned for a prolonged period by the CBI, for financial transaction and being an alleged beneficiary from the Saradha group. Though he had claimed that he was an employee of the Saradha group and the payments received by him was for that purpose, he had failed to furnish his employment details to the investigative agencies.
