Auckland: Indian cricket team’s captain Virat Kohli paid rich tributes to American basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash in the US on Sunday (January 26).

Bryant, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Maria Onore Bryant were among the nine who died in the crash in Calabasas, California.

“Absolutely devastated to hear this news today. So many childhood memories of waking up early and watching this magician doing things on the court that I would be mesmerized by. Life is so unpredictable and fickle. His daughter Gianna passed away too in the crash. Iam absolutely Heartbroken. Rest in peace. Strength and condolences to the family,” Kohli, who is currently in New Zealand, wrote on his Instagram page on Monday (January 27).

Australian spin legend Shane Warne too was shocked to hear the passing of Bryant. Warne wrote on his Twitter page, “Like everyone, I’m stunned, shocked and saddened to hear the horrific news about Kobe Bryant and his 13 year old daughter who died in a helicopter crash. Thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this extremely sad time ! #RIPKobeBryant.”

West Indies batting legend Sir Vivian Richards wrote, “A true legend of the sporting world! Rest In Peace dear Kobe and his daughter. May the family have immense strength to overcome this sad time. #RIPLegend.”

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh wrote, “Shocked to hear that Kobe Bryant has passed away   ! Such a great basketball player has just gone  like this , makes us realise life is so vulnerable . RIP legend.”

Indian team's head coach Ravi Shastri wrote, "Absolutely devastated by the tragic news of Kobe Bryant and his daughter. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans across the globe #KobeBryantRIP #KobeForever #Kobe."
