WhatsApp challenge: The unenviable task of being an admin, separating fake from real news
WhatsApp! An app that has sneaked it's way to being an integral part of everyone's life. Be it sharing the little details within a family or friend's circle or spreading the word among a much larger group, the app simplifies connecting in many ways. Earlier this year, the app introduced a few ground rules to ease out the tension that had been firing up due to fake messages snaking its way into the messenger. The app now marks a message as a forward if it is being circulated, to let users know that the information must be verified before blindly being digested. That apart, there is also a cap on the number of people you can forward a message to any given point in time.
Be it sharing the little details within a family or friend's circle or spreading the word among a much larger group, Whatsapp simplifies connecting in many ways. But the real task lies with admins of these groups, from holding a debate together, or moderating the information that comes in and being wise about differentiating between the fake and the real messengers.
