Kannauj: A man in Uttar Pradesh was trying to sell his four-year-old daughter for the treatment of his pregnant wife when police forces intervened and stopped him.

Arvind Banjara had admitted his pregnant wife Sukhdevi in the hospital where she developed complications and needed blood.

Since Banjara did not have the money to arrange for blood for his wife, he tried to sell his four-year-old daughter Roshni for Rs 25,000.

Banjara and seven-month pregnant Sukhdevi also have a one-year-old son Jaanu.

“In the district hospital, we were told to get blood for her. They told me that she will not survive if blood is not arranged for her. I didn't have money, so I had no other option, but to sell my child," Banjara was quoted as saying by ANI.

When the police came to know about this, they offered to provide full financial support.

Amod Kumar Singh, an officer in Tirwa police station said, “We got to know from people that there is a couple who is in need of money for treatment and is very disturbed. We also heard that they were trying to sell their child. When we found out that the woman is suffering from bleeding and needs help, the Tirwa police station decided to provide full financial aid to the family”.

Singh said that if needed, they will provide blood to her as well.
