In a big achievement for the Narendra Modi government, 2730 out of total 2745 villages in Kashmir region have been electrified under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. 

With an aim to electrify all ten districts of Kashmir, 99.4 per cent villages are electrified till date. The Government has achieved a remarkable number and the remaining work is underway, which is likely to be completed very soon.

This data was shared by EM&RE Wing, Kashmir of State PDD Department in reply to an RTI filed by Jammu based RTI Activist Rohit Choudhary. 

The state department has given a detailed reply in which they stated the work done so far. In Srinagar, all 11 Villages have been electrified, in Anantnag, all 342 villages have been electrified, in Baramulla, all 518 villages achieved full electrification and in Budgam all 476 villages have been brightened. 

The RTI also reveals that 117 villages of Ganderbal, 231 villages of Kulgam, 329 villages of Pulwama and 229 villages of Shopian have also achieved 100% electrification mark.

PM Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Kashmir had said, "Jammu and Kashmir has many rivers that have a potential for electricity generation. This state has the potential not only to meet its own requirements but can also produce power for the rest of the country. Rs 4,000 crore is being spent on improving the power distribution network in J&K so that every village and town of the state is lit up.” 

Bandipora and Kupwara are only two districts where the Government is yet to achieve 100 per cent electrification. 115 villages out of 122 have been electrified in Bandipora while 362 villages out of 370 have been electrified in Kupwara. The remaining villages will be electrified soon.
